So I decided to dust off Diary of an Afro Warrior today for the first time in a while and give it a spin. On my hard-drive. Still, good choice. I'd not exactly forgotten about Benga, but the speed in which dubstep is mutating currently means inevitably, as with all music, things get left behind. Along with Kode9 & Spaceape's Memories of the Future, Benga's full length stands out as one of the most fully-formed and accomplished dubstep records of the past few years. 'Crunked Up' presents a more harshly-electronic and full-on sound than the majority of the first half of the record, but is the one guaranteed to get stuck in your brain on repeat (other than Night, natch).
